Andrea Maestri designs--Milan

Andrea Maestri is based in Milan. This collection, a reader submission to DesignBoom, is self-produced. What I like about it is the simplicity, the playfulness, and the taboo surrounding the pieces, like with the "I love Jesus" coffee table and "Fuck You" table lamp, below. There's a "found" and "repurposed" quality in the work (although I am not certain that is what Maestri has done) I identify with and enjoy--very inspirational.

Moshi Moshi Handset for Mobiles from Juno Design Shop

I do believe that many people might find the "retro" version of a phone receiver to be more comfortable for use during longer calls. Many people might also find a thrill in the act of holding the slightly curved object in their hands or--as is probably most widely the case in use--wedged between the side of their heads and their shoulder (particularly during a longer conversation that takes place while in the act of multitasking). For those of us who have known such experiences in communication, the Moshi Moshi retro handset for mobiles offers a creative and surprising refresher in the old land-line phone-call dance. This device also decreases the possibility of cell-phone fueled cancers. I'm enjoying the Moshi Moshi idea--one that bridges the past with the present/old with new--old becoming new again. The Moshi Moshi handset is reasonably priced (with ore without a base) and can be used with a computer as well as your smartphone. See more and read more HERE.

VeneriDesign

VeneriDesign (LONDON) offers very creative pieces including this "nuke" lamp--which makes quiet a statement as well as looking rather intriguing and illuminating. A piece I enjoy, as a book lover, is the "bookoral" shelving that is structured in a tree-like formation. See more from VeneriDesign HERE.

"Loved" by Alexander Ocias

Alexander Ocias' Loved is a game but it is also art. Well, I am sure that many would argue that all video games are forms of art. It is true that many hours and creative manpower go into making games for Xbox, Wii, Play Station, and the rest of the gaming systems one might interact with. However, Loved is simplified in the graphic front, yet it's infuriating and makes you think. I spent about an hour playing, and have just missed finishing the game. It's not so easy. I'm not usually a "gamer" by any means which may contribute to the fact that I haven't made it to the end just yet. Still, I am weirdly connected to the "mind" or "being" behind the scenes, urging you to continue on. If Loved is a game about love, it's a love that is slightly twisted. Ocias calls his game a form of short story--there are quick sentences to read as the game moves forward. What is left unsaid and how you interact with the game is what is most intriguing. Play it HERE. Ocias is a graphic artist and on his website you can experience more of his work. The pic and source came from Matt Bell's blog HERE.

Xavier Martin: Sleek and Modern Designs

Xavier Martin is a designer located in Barcelona, Spain. Most of his work seems to be in the realm of interior design. However, he has also worked on projects in graphic design and architecture. It's not everyday that a designers website gives good browse, however, Martin's site is very interesting. His interior designs, like that for a Pharmacy above, are sleek and modern, allowing the product contained in the shops to shine. I also love the idea Martin gives for a shoe store based on Cherry Blossoms in Japan. See it for yourself on His Site.

Sandy Lam's "Spaceless"

Sandy is a designer working in Canada. I came across this design in a magazine. The "Spaceless" is an award winner and serves to add more function and space to your outdoor living area. I thought it was pretty clever, particularly if you are living in a small space. The bench and table fold up from the floor. Very smart.

Check it out HERE.

Sandy is an all 'round designer. Here site shows her renderings, interactive, communication, and photography designs. But, it is her INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS, including "Spaceless" that stand out.
